the United States

i went to boston and NYC while i was going back to japan from canada on the way.

BOSTON

i was going to hate that city. Obciously, boston didn't welcome me at all.

there is one friend in boston who goes to study in harvard univ.and allowed me to stay in her house. i met her in the volunteer program in france( see Voyage in france!)
i had to call her at first to drop off my baggage anyway, but stupidly i forgot to carry her e-mail address with myself...so i started to look for a cybercafe first, but nobody knew where there was! bostonians were so kind but they didn't know anything about their city!! damn!!

i walked around cambridge about for 2 hours. my shoulders hurt me a lot incrediblly.

i got more unlucky happnings such as snowing heavily. i had never been such an unluckey person when i travel actually...

but, yeah that's true that boston is very nice city and i would have love it if no snow, no unluckiness....

photos of boston!?

********GO!! and SEE!!*************

i think i am going to say the same place to recommend, but please go to FINE ARTS MUSIUM OF BOSTON if you like impressionism!!

Gogh, Monet, Degas, Renoir, Cezzanne, Picasso, Lembrant,,,

you will be amazed, even upset how many famous paintings the musium has.

the musium is expensive to get in, but it is worth seeing for sure.

NYC

i had been there for 5nights, but it was still not enough to see whole of NYC.

my special memory in NYC is mostly in the hostel that i stayed.

New York City

1; the statue of liberty.
I almost forgot there was the statue of liberty in nyc… it is too symbolic all over the world, and I can even see the statue japan.
There is a ferry line to statten island for free depart from the battery park, and it would be enough to see the statue for me.( I guess for all of tourists…) now the ferry terminal is under renovation, and it is going to be more touristic, I guess.

2: wall Street.
jazz@wallst.
It is also definitely one of the symbols in nyc for all over the world. You must have seen some movies where the actors and actresses there.
I was really looking forward to seeing inside the New York stock exchange, it could be seen for free, but that’s USED TO, but not any more. Why? Because the terrorism on 9/11, 01.
Wall Street also kind of disappointed me because it was not like very business street, but touristic, not busy, and small.

3: china town and little Italy
I didn’t expect this district even before I visited because there are many many china towns all over the world, and little Italy, even in Ottawa and Toronto. As I thought, there was nothing special there for me. Just Chinese people live there, just Italians own their cafés and restaurants.

4: times square and rock ferror center
ummm, that is also very very very very famous area for the world.
Neon lights, crowded people, and attractive broadways, filled with yellow cabs…
I felt like I was in a movie…
When I went around rock ferror centers, there are many many bland shops around there such as Gucci or bvrgali, I saw many many Japanese tourists there… that’s also what I was disappointed.

5: the gate (central park)
Have you ever heard of “the gate” ( > for Japanese??) I don’t think the gate is famous for Japanese people, but surprisingly it is getting pretty much more famous for tourists except from japan. At least I’d never heard of that before.
However, even I went just in front of the gates, I didn’t understand why it was so famous one…. Well, I understood, there is no colour in winter in the park, and those gates give the colour, but I can’t believe some people visit New York just to see the gate…

6: tribeca, Chelsea, Greenwich Village, and upper west side.

Those districts are where I didn’t know there is in manhattan. Historical, quiet, and relaxable. Not so many points where you must see, but just wander. I felt the history of manhattan. My favorite place.

7: soho, noho

look at that toilette!!Don’t go shopping to Times Square but soho and noho would be more attractive.
The breeker st. is my favorite. You must go and see many many small but original shops.
It is kind of long street, you just walk and enjoy your window shopping. You can even find a clothing boutique sells made-in-japanese.

8: Harlem

One of most historical place is here, but tourists hesitate to go there because it is said to be dangerous. Actually the hostel that I stay is located in Harlem, (south of Harlem, though) it was not dangerous at all,and even lighter than Brookline. I took a walk almost every morning around Harlem, it was really nice.

9: museums

my big aim in every travel is going to museums. Metro politan museum and museum of modern art (MOMA) is worth seeing for sure. Especially, MOMA was renovated by one big Japanese architect Yoshio Taniguchi, whom we should be proud of, and what I was most surprised was he designed the city hall of tsukuba…,,, where I stay to go to university..
my favorite museum in nyc is Guggenheim museum. They have really interesting and fabulous paintings, I enjoyed there a lot. And also the most disgusting museum is the museum of sex.
I know people are curious to go, but I don’t recommend at all. Expensive, and not worth paying.

10: Broadway and musical

You can’t miss the big opportunity to watch musicals in nyc. Lately there is a booth for people to get discount ticket for musicals. It is sometimes 50% of the normal price, but you have to go on the day you want to see. And have to make a line also.(but it is not so bad. The line moves so fast, you won’t wait long)
I watched “RENT”. I didn’t understand the whole story because of my poor English skill and also even normal(?)American seemed hard to understand because of the complicated story. The lady who sat next to me asked who was who, but how could I answer that!!! The music was nice, I was moved somehow, after all.
